King James Version (KJV) Bible
The King James Version (KJV) bible is one of the oldest and widely used English bible translations. It was first translated in the early 1600s by a group of roughly 50 scholars, all members of the Church of England.
The KJV bible is well known for being written in older English, containing "thy, thou, thee, thine, etc.," instead of the modern-day words "you and yours." Many traditional denominations consider the KJV bible to be the only authoritative English translation (although this view is beginning to shift, especially with the publication of the New King James Version).
The 1611 original version of the King James Version (KJV) bible is also known as the Authorized Version. Up until the recent publication of the New King James (NKJV), other revisions of the King James were generally considered to not have the same level of authority as the original 1611 version.
The King James Version (KJV) Bible is:
- Literal to the original text.
- Widely accepted and used by a large number of churches.
- Considered most authoritative by a number of church denominations.

* Note, the King James Version (KJV) bible can be difficult to understand to those unfamiliar with older English, which is why many are now beginning to use its latest revision, the New King James Version (NKJV).
