English Standard Version (ESV) Bible

The English Standard Version (ESV) bible is an English translation that was completed in 2001. It is one of two English translations that used the Revised Standard Version (RSV) bible as the foundation for the translation.

The English Standard Version (ESV) and the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) are therefore both connected in that they are both revisions of the original RSV. However, while the NRSV took a more balanced approach to translating the RSV, the English Standard Version took a more literal, word-for-word, approach.

The English Standard was translated for the purpose of providing a more literal translation of the biblical texts for scholars. However, this bible has also become popular in churches, since it has the literal, word-for-word, aspect of the King James Version without the Old-English language (thy, thou, etc.).

The English Standard Version (ESV) Bible is:

  • Literal to the original text.
  • Easy to read and understand, not having the older English aspects of the King James.
